Equinor Cleared for Norwegian Wildcat

Norway's Equinor has received a permit from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to sink a wildcat well in the North Sea, the NPD said on September 17.

The well will be drilled by the Deepsea Atlantic semi-submersible rig at the Equinor-operated production licence 089, east of the company's Statfjord oil and gas field and west of its Borg discovery. Equinor's partners at the site are Petoro, Var Energi, Idemitsu Petroleum and Wintershall Dea.

The Statfjord field has been in production since 1979 and flowed 1.09bn m3 of gas last year. It also produced 25,850 barrels/day of liquids.
