Eni Takes More LNG from Nigeria

Italian Eni has signed a new long-term contract with Nigeria LNG, whereby it will take 1.5mn metric tons/yr from the plant which it co-owns with 10.4%.  The LNG will be produced from the existing Trains 1,2 and 3 in Bonny Island, Nigeria, Eni said January 28.

The contract matches the ten-year contract that Total, another partner, announced January 22 although Eni has not said how long this contract will last. Eni is also one of the suppliers of gas to the liquefaction plant, thus contributing to the value of the associated gas resources in Nigeria. A year later than planned. the partners agreed in December to boost the plant's capacity by 35% to about 30mn mt/yr, by adding a seventh train and by debottlenecking existing trains.

The deal, together with the one for 1.1mn mt/yr agreed last December allows Eni to increase its global LNG portfolio starting from 2021 and to support its presence in markets worldwide.

Eni has been present in Nigeria since 1962, with operated and non-operated exploration development and production activities in the onshore and offshore areas of the Niger. Eni’s equity hydrocarbon production in the country exceeds 100,000 boe/day.
