Lundin Petroleum has said today that partner Eni has begun exploration at the Salina prospect in the Barents Sea with the spuding of exploration well 7220/10-1.

The well's aim to prove the existence of hydrocarbons at the prospect (previously known as the Pulk prospect) in the Norwegian section of the Barents Sea. Earlier estimates by Lundin on the prospect, which it says is on a geological trend with the Skrugard and Havis discoveries, to have resources of approximately 500 million barrels of oil equivalent (boe).

Eni is the operator of the Salina prospect with a 40 per cent stake. The third partner in the prospect, Det norske oljeselskap (DETNOR), also holds a 40 per cent stake. Lundin Petroleum holds the remaining 20 per cent stake.
