Eni Sees No Threat of Reduced Russian Gas Supply

The head of Italian oil major Eni said March 27 he sees no threat to Russian gas flows into Italy, despite rising geopolitical tensions between Russia and the West largely related to the attempted murder of a Russian double-agent.

Speaking to the news service Reuters on the sidelines of a conference in Milan, Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi said he could see no potential for supply disruptions.

“We buy gas from Russia and there are no sanctions on the gas we buy so from that point of view I don’t think there are supply and energy security problems for Italy,” Descalzi said.

Asked about a well recently drilled by Eni and Russia’s Rosneft in the Black Sea, Descalzi said only the drilling had not found “very much.”
