Eni, BP Find More Gas off Egypt

Italy's Eni and its partner BP have reported another gas discovery off Egypt in the Great Nooros area, Eni announced on September 16.

The Nidoco NW-1 well made the find at the Abu Madi West development lease in the Nile Delta, in waters 16 m deep. The discovery is 5 km from the coast and 4 km north of the 2 trillion-ft3 Nooros field, commissioned by Eni in late 2015.

The well discovered gas-bearing sands 100 m thick in the Kafr-El-Sheik and Abu Madi formations with good petrophysical properties, Eni said. The company said the result proved the high potential of the Great Nooros Area, which it now estimates to contain more than 4 trillion ft3. Eni made another find 12 northwest of Nooros at the North El Hammad lease in July.

The company also launched production at the Baltim South West field in the area in September 2019. It also found the Noor field in March of that year.

Eni has earned a reputation in Egypt for strong exploration results and the rapid development of fields. The company discovered the 30 trillion-ft3 offshore Zohr gas field, its main project in the country, in 2015 and brought it on stream in just two years.
