Eni Completes Algerian Gas Pipe

Italy's Eni has announced the completion of a pipeline connecting the Bir Rebaa Nord (BRN) and Menzel Ledjmet Est (MLE) fields in the Berkine basin in southeastern Algeria.

The fast-tracked construction of the pipeline by Eni and Algeria's Sonatrach enables the export of associated gas produced at the BRN and Bir Rebaa SW (BRSW) fields at block 403, the Italian major said in a statement on March 2. It also paves the way for the development of Berkine Nord gas deposits.

The pipeline is capable of flowing 7mn m3/day of gas.

Eni completed a 49% farm-in at the Sif Fatima II, Zemlet El Arbi and Ourhoud II concessions in the Berkine Nord basin in February last year.  Oil production was started three months later.

The project targeting gas in the Berkine Nord area is expected to yield a daily output of 6.5mn m3/day of gas and 10,000 barrels of associated liquids once fully operational. Together with the oil development, overall production is slated to reach 65,000 barrels of oil equivalent/day this year.
