Energean's Israel FPSO Certified

Energean Oil & Gas, the Greek oil and gas producer, said May 8 it has received certification from global quality assurance body DNV-GL for the basic design of the newbuild floating production storage and offloading (FPSO), or production ship, that it will deploy at its deepwater Karish-Tanin development, offshore Israel.

Rapid obtainment of this "class approval" reflects "the maturity of the FPSO design at final investment decision (FID) and keeps the development on track to cut first steel as planned before end-2018," Energean said, adding that it also validates its strategy of building upon an existing hull design from TechnipFMC subsidiary, Inocean.

Progress was also helped last week when a petition against its Karish-Tanin gas development was dismissed by the Israeli Supreme CourtEnergean plans to deliver first gas to the Israeli market in 2021.

Energean announced it would hire Technip in February 2017.  The $1.6bn Israeli project to develop the Karish and Tanin gas fields took FID in March 2018
