Greek upstream firm Energean said January 29 it has hired the Stena Forth drillship for the development drilling of the Karish gas field, offshore Israel.

The charter from Stena Drilling of the ship, for a three-well drilling programme starting 1Q2019, is subject to Energean’s final investment decision regarding the Karish and Tanin fields.

The Karish development includes the drilling of three development wells, then production from a new Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel 90km offshore. First gas is expected in 2021. The company received approval in August 2017 from the Israeli government of the field development plan for the Karish and Tanin gas fields.

Currently based at Las Palmas in Spain's Canary Islands, Stena Forth (shown in the photo above, courtesy of Energean) is a dynamically positioned (DP) Class 3 ultra-deepwater drillship with a track record in world-wide operations including offshore Libya, Egypt's Gulf of Suez, Malaysia, Greenland and the US Gulf. Stena Drilling is based in Aberdeen and wholly-owned by Stena AB.
