Enbridge, DTE Receive FERC Approval for Nexus Construction

Spectra Energy Partners and DTE Energy have received the go-ahead from US regulator Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to begin construction on their 1.5 bn ft³/day Nexus Gas Transmission Project.

The 255-mile interstate pipeline will deliver Appalachian shale gas from the Marcellus and Utica fields to consumers in northern Ohio, southeastern Michigan, the Chicago trading hub in Illinois and the Dawn trading hub in southern Ontario.

FERC approval was granted on October 11. On October 12, Enbridge (owner of Spectra Energy) and DTE said the $2bn project would be in service late in 3Q 2018.

Nexus, the companies said, would support growing natural gas demand in the US Midwest and eastern Canada and help offset the decline in traditional supplies from western Canada.
