EIA Forecasts Record US Gas Production in 2018

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said January 18 it expects dry natural gas production in the US will reach a record 80.4bn ft3/day in 2018, a 9% increase from 2017 levels.

That level of output would surpass the previous record daily average of 74.2bn ft3/day, set in 2015, but would be short-lived: 2019 production, the EIA said, is currently forecast to reach 83bn ft3/day.

Growth is likely to be concentrated in the Appalachian Marcellus and Utica shales in the Northeast and in the Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico.
