EGAS, Cyprus Hydrocarbon Company to Study Ways to Transfer Cypriot Gas to Egypt

Egyptian Natural Gas Holding (EGAS) and the Cyprus Hydrocarbons Company (CHC) will study technical solutions to transfer natural gas from Aphrodite field to Egypt.

In a statement published Saturday Egypt’s petroleum ministry said option of direct sea pipeline from the gas field to Egypt would be examined.

A memorandum regarding this was signed by Khaled Abdel Badie, chairman of EGAS and Tula Onofrio of CHC Sharm El Sheikh.

Egypt’s Petroleum minister Sherif Ismail pointed out that the signing of the MoU comes as one of the important steps in the framework of relations between Egypt and Cyprus, especially in the oil and natural gas field, which has seen a number of meetings being held in Cairo and Nicosia between the Ministers of Petroleum of the two countries.

In February, Ismail and Cypriot Minister of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Yiorgos Lakkotrypis signed a memorandum for cooperation in oil and gas sector.
