East Siberian Field Placed Under Lockdown

The Chayandinskoye gas field in Yakutia, which pumps supplies to China via the Power of Siberia, has been placed under quarantine to prevent the spread of Covid-19, the local government reported on April 17.

Under the quarantine decree, free movement to and from the Gazprom-operated field will be limited, although an exception will be made for workers needed to ensure continued production. As NGW reported earlier this week, three field workers have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and have been moved to a hospital in Lensk for treatment. Two non-workers are also being treated in the hospital, according to the Yakutia government.

All personnel at Chayandinskoye have been self-isolating since April 12, the local government said, save for shift workers needed for the production process.

Gazprom is currently building facilities at Chayandinskoye in order to raise the field's production to its full capacity of 25bn m3/yr. Work is also underway at the Kovyktinskoye field in Irkutsk, which is due to feeding gas into the Power of Siberia by the end of 2022.
