Drilling on Phase 14 of South Pars is 46% Complete

Drilling work on phase 14 of the South Pars gas field development project is 46 percent complete, according to Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

Hamid-Reza Shafiei Mokvand, director of the project, said till now 22 wells have been drilled and another 44 wells are to be drilled in phase 14. The work is being carried out by National Iranian Drilling Company.

He said once completed, phase 14 will produce more than one million tons of liquefied gas and a million tons of ethane to provide feedstock for petrochemical plants, IRNA reported.

He added that the phase will also produce 400 tons of sulfur per day.

South Pars covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.
