Dongwha Entec, K Shipbuilding to develop LNG-fuelled containership

Korean equipment manufacturer Dongwha Entec has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with shipbuilder K Shipbuilding to build an 8,000 teu LNG-fuelled containership, it said on January 21.

K Shipbuilding is seeking classification approval that verifies the suitability of the basic design for an 8,000-teu class containership, Dongwha said.

Citing data from Korea’s industry ministry, Dongwha said that the Korean shipbuilding industry has achieved the best results in eight years by winning 17.44mn CGT worth of orders in 2021.

The company said that the demand for eco-friendly ships is increasing because of the International Maritime Organisation regulations on greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector.
