DNV Approves KHI's New LNG Tank Design

Classification society DNV has awarded Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) an approval in principle for their newly developed non-spherical moss tank, DNV said June 7.

The new tank is an independent Type B LNG tank that has been developed for use in 180,000 metre3 carriers designed to pass through the new Panama Canal, it said.

According to KHI, the new tank has the same reliability as a spherical moss tank, but has a cargo capacity 15% larger and with no filling restrictions. It can also be used with the Kawasaki Panel System, an advanced heat insulation system developed by KHI.
