Dhaka Hopes to Soon Start Importing Qatari LNG

Bangladesh hopes to soon begin importing LNG from Qatar, country’s state minister for Finance and Planning MA Mannan said.

Speaking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of an event in Doha the minister said, “A high government level talk is currently underway with Qatari counterparts to settle the pricing and other issues related to LNG imports."

Mannan added that Dhaka already imports large amounts of oil from Qatar and importing natural gas makes sense.

He said the only technical difficulty for the time-being is the requirement of an offshore LNG terminal, which is currently under construction at the Moheshkhali area of the Bay of Bengal, Qatar Tribune added.

In 2011, Bangladesh signed a memorandum with Qatar for import of LNG. The memorandum was later extended.
