DEPA, Enel May Join TAP

The Greek government and Greek energy companies Enel and DEPA are seeking to join the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project, Greek newspaper Kathimerini has reported.

The newspaper reports that the companies and government are ready to lend support to TAP over the Nabucco West project as the TAP project will include Greece as part of its transit route. Greek Secretary of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Asimakis Papageorgiou, will meet with the TAP consortium to discuss Greece's participation in the project.

Separately, discussions were ongoing with DEPA and Enel to connect to the pipeline, the newspaper reported without citing its sources.

TAP, which is planning to carry gas from the Greek/Turkish border across Albania to Italy, is one of the pipelines in the running to transport gas from the Azeri Shah Deniz field. However, support remains strong for the Nabucco West project with Azeri energy minister Natik Aliyev yesterday voicing his support for the project.

""I consider that Nabucco West is the best option from all points of view because it is a project of the European Union and they always supported this project," the minister told reporters yesterday.
