Daily Gas Consumption in Iran Hits New Record

Daily gas consumption in Iran surpassed 645 million cubic meters on December 6, National Iranian Gas Company's spokesman Majid Boujarzadeh said.

He added that gas consumption had risen by 100 mcm in recent days due to intense cold weather, Shana news agency reported on December 7.

Residential, commercial, and small industrial units consumed 450 mcm of gas, he said, adding that taking 97 mcm consumption by power plants and 98 mcm consumption by large industries, gas consumption surpasses 645 mcm per day.

Residential, commercial, and small industrial units' gas consumption was 120 mcm/d in October, about four times less than December 6.

He recalled that 456 mcm of gas has been consumed on average per day since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 21), compared with 431 mcm last year.

Gas delivery to power plants has reached 46.8 billion cubic meters so far this year, while the figure was 39.6 bcm last year, he noted.

Manoochehr Taheri, director of the dispatching center at NIGC, said on November 7 that some 202 billion cubic meters of gas was produced in the country in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

He added that gas consumption stood at 190 billion cubic meters last year.
