Daewoo Shipbuilding wins $517mn order for two LNGCs

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won a 679.4bn won ($517.4mn) order for the construction of two LNG carriers, the company said on March 14 in a stock exchange filing.

DSME did not identify the shipowner but said that it is based in the Oceania region. The delivery of the two vessels is expected by mid-June 2027.

Last year, DSME won approval for its hybrid power system to aid large LNG carriers. The hybrid power system configuration includes a battery energy storage system and shaft generator within an existing power source that will allow the LNG carriers to access hybrid power when needed.
