Daewoo Shipbuilding Wins Novatek Order

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has won an order to build two 380,000 m3 LNG barges for Russia’s Novatek, it said on June 8 in a statement. The deal has an option for two additional units.

The barges are expected to be ready by 2022, DSME said. They will be used at the LNG transshipment and storage facilities Novatek is building in the Murmansk and Kamchatka regions of Russia. These facilities will support deliveries of LNG to European and Asian markets from Novatek’s Arctic LNG liquefaction plants.

DSME said it has won orders worth approximately $1.33bn this year, including two LNG barges, one LNG floating storage and regasification unit, two shuttle tankers, and one very large crude carrier.
