Cooper extends gas supply deal with EnergyAustralia

Cooper Energy, an Australian energy company, has signed an agreement with power and gas retailer EnergyAustralia to extend the domestic supply term under the existing Sole gas sales agreement, it said on November 6.

Under the agreement, Cooper will supply 5 petajoules (PJ)/year of natural gas for three years, from January 2026. The contract is priced reflective of current market conditions for term contracts.

“This agreement signifies the continued importance of gas in our economy. Gas is not just a transition fuel; it is a future fuel and will be needed in the long-term. It will continue to play a pivotal role in Australia to provide industrial heat and feedstock to manufacturers and flexible energy to support further integration of renewable energy into the electricity network,” Cooper CEO Jane Norman said.

The Sole gas field is located in VIC/L32 the Gippsland basin, offshore Victoria, approximately 65 km from the Orbost gas plant. Cooper is the operator of VIC/L32.
