Cooper Energy commissions Athena gas plant

Sydney-listed Cooper Energy on November 3 said it has commissioned the Athena gas plant in southern Australia. The plant is fully operational and ready to receive the first gas once the pipeline cutover has been completed.

The pipeline cutover is on schedule to start in mid-November and there will be no processing of gas from the Casino, Henry and Netherby fields during the four-week cutover period. Upon completion, the ramp-up of gas processing will occur over the ensuing one or two weeks, with full processing rates expected by the end of December.

Meanwhile, Cooper and joint venture partner Mitsui have approved the Otway phase 3 development to start the front-end engineering and design (Feed) stage. Completion of Feed is expected in mid-2022, including negotiation of new gas sales agreements. A final investment decision is subject to refinance of the debt facility and joint venture partner approval, Cooper said.
