Cooper, Beach Strike Gas in South Oz

Sydney-listed Cooper Energy October 15 announced that the Dombey-1DW1 exploration well in PEL 494 in South Australia’s Otway Basin found gas.

“A gross gas column of 44.5 metres, with an estimated net pay thickness of 25 metres, has been identified with an interpreted gas-water contact in the reservoir. Gas sample analysis indicates a low inert content,” Cooper said.

PEL 494 is operated by Beach Energy with 70% and Cooper has the rest. Dombey-1DW1 has been drilled to the depth of 3,384 metres and formation evaluation is ongoing, Cooper added.

“Further testing and analysis are required to establish commerciality however this initial data is encouraging,” the company added.

Dombey-1 is being drilled with the assistance of A$6.9mn grant from the South Australian government.
