CNPC's Single Day Gas Sales Hit Record

State-owned CNPC recorded its highest ever single day gas sales December 29 thanks to a spike in residential demand for gas, it said January 7.

With temperatures falling far below normal last month, the company sold a record 703mn m3 of gas on December 29. This was also the first time that single day sales crossed 700mn m3, CNPC announced.

China’s gas demand was very robust in 2018 owing to industrial units and households switching from coal to gas for heating purposes. Strong demand has resulted in record imports of LNG for CNPC. PetroChina, a unit of CNPC, which operates three LNG import terminals – Jiangsu, Tangshan and Dalian – received record volumes of LNG in 2018. The three terminals in total received more than 15 million metric tons of LNG last year for the first time ever, CNPC said earlier this month.
