CNPC’s Changning Shale Block Passes Milestone

State-run CNPC’s Changning block of the Changning-Weiyuan national shale gas demonstration in Sichuan province has become China’s biggest shale gas producing asset, with daily output now exceeding 20mn m3, the company said on October 13 in a statement.

The Changning block’s daily output now stands at 20.26mn m3, the highest among all shale gas producing assets in China, CNPC added.

Changning-Weiyuan was designated a national demonstration zone in March 2012 by the planning agency National Development and Reform Commission. The demonstration zone was completed In January 2016.

Sichuan has large shale gas reserves mainly in the southern part of the Sichuan basin. At present, the main producing areas are in the Changning-Weiyuan block.
