CNPC Increases Domestic Gas Supply

CNPC said May 21 that it has increased the availability of natural gas in the domestic market and supply in April was up 15% year on year. The company did not provide any details about exact volumes.

The company said it has increased output at major fields such as Changqing, Southwest, Tarim and Qinghai by 2% year on year to 30.5bn m3 in the first four months of 2018. It also accelerated the construction of gas pipelines in east China.

CNPC has pumped more gas into the storage system as well. In April, the amount of gas in storage reached 1.49bn m3, an increase of 32.6% compared with same period last year. The company expects to supply 10% more gas from the storage system during the winters season.

Demand for natural gas in China has been very strong since early last year which has prompted explorers to increase output. China’s natural gas production during April was 12.9bn m3, up 6.3% year on year, according to statistics bureau data released May 15. During January-April, production was 52.63bn m3, a year on year increase of 4%.
