CNOOC's Hainan LNG Terminal Gets First Cargo from Qatar

Qatargas delivered the first LNG cargo to China National Offshore Oil Corporation’s (CNOOC) Hainan LNG terminal located in the Hainan province, last week, company said in a statement. 

The fuel will be used to commission the new LNG terminal which CNOOC owns and will be operating soon.

The two companies have an agreement signed in 2008 under which the Qatari firm will supply a total of two million tonnes per annum (MTA) of LNG. The first delivery of LNG to CNOOC was made in October 2009.

Hainan LNG terminal has an annual capacity of 3 million tons of LNG. The project is has joint investment by CNOOC Gas & Power Group and Hainan Province Development Control Co., Ltd.

The project consists of three individual projects including the receiving terminal, the terminal harbor and the trunkline project. The gas supply will cover the whole of Hainan Island and spread to Guangxi Province and the west region of Guangdong Province.
