CNOOC Strikes Gas in Bohai Bay

China National Offshore Oil Corp said Thursday that it has discovered natural gas in the northeast of Bohai Bay. The exploration well has been drilled to the depth of 5,000 meters.

CNOOC said on its website that it is the first deep natural gas discovery in Bohai Bay, claiming it as a technological breakthrough, but did not disclose the scale of the natural gas discovered.

Zhong Hua, chief financial officer of the company, said in April that the company discovered five offshore oil plots in the Bohai Sea in the first three months of the year, and that the region will continue to be the source of China’s offshore oil growth in the future.
