Clough, Wartsila to Develop PNG Power Plant

Australian contractor Clough in joint venture with Wartsila has won an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to develop the POM gas power station near Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, Clough said October 27.

The POM power station is being developed by NiuPower, a 50:50 partnership between Australian Oil Search and Papua New Guinea's national oil and gas company Kumul Petroleum Holdings. The POM power station uses natural gas supplied by the ExxonMobil’s PNG LNG project to feed six high efficiency reciprocating gas engines and generators.  Kumul Petroleum holds 16.57% stake in the PNG LNG project while Oil Search has a stake of 29%.

The power plant will produce 58MW base load power to the Port Moresby power grid through a new 66kv power line and substation network.
