Chinese gas imports up 22% in Jan-Nov

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in January-November were 109.75mn metric tons, up 21.8% year/year, the country’s customs department said on December 7.

The arrivals remained robust last month as well despite a sharp run-up in prices in the last few months. Asia’s biggest economy imported 10.72mn mt of gas in November, up from 9.38mn mt in October.

Chinese gas imports have been on an uptrend this year owing to robust domestic demand and recovery in economic activity post the COVID-19 pandemic.
