Chinese gas imports down 9% in May

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in the first five months of 2022 were down 9.3% year/year, the country’s customs department said on June 9.

Asia's biggest economy imported 44.91mn metric tons of natural gas during the January-May period compared with 49.51mn mt in the same period of last year. The cost of imports during January-May jumped 57.5% year/year to $26.9bn. The natural gas imports in May came in at 9.07mn mt, the customs department said.
