Chinese gas imports down 9% in January-April

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in the first four months of 2022 were down 8.9% year/year, the country’s customs department said on May 9.

Asia's biggest economy imported 35.87mn metric tons of natural gas during the January-April period compared with 39.37mn mt in the same period of last year. The cost of imports during January-April jumped 60% year/year to $21.6bn. The natural gas imports in April came in at 8.08mn mt, the customs department said.
