China's Xinjiang Region's Gas Output Exceeds 30bcm

China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region’s natural gas production in 2015 stands at more than 30 billion cubic meters, reported Xinhua.

According to the state owned news agency, the region is the second biggest gas producer after Shaanxi province.

The four major fields in the region Karamay, Tarim, Tuha and Tahe have yielded 30.05 bcm of natural gas as on December 23. The annual natural gas output increased to 29.6 bcm last year, accounting for 22.7 percent of the country's total output, from only 5.7 billion cubic meters in 2004, Xinhua reported.

Consumption of gas has also grown amid rising output. Gas usage per capita in Xinjiang reached 240 cubic meters last year, which is 1.7 times the national average.

Estimates suggest the region has 14 trillion cubic meters of natural gas and 22.8 billion tons of oil.
