Chinese Gas Imports up 3% in Jan-Aug

Chinese gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG were up 3.3% yr/yr in the first eight months of the year, marking a significant slowdown in growth as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on demand.

Asia’s biggest economy imported 65.06mn metric tons of gas during January through August, against 62.96mn mt in the same period of last year, customs department data published September 7 showed. In contrast, Chinese gas imports surged 10.3% yr/yr in the first eight months of 2019.

China imported 9.36mn mt of gas in August, versus 8.34mn mt in the same month last year, the customs department said.
