China's Gas Imports During Jan-Jul Up 2%

Chinese gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG were up 1.9% yr/yr in the first seven months of the year, marking a significant slowdown in growth, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic's impact on demand.

Asia’s biggest economy imported 55.7mn metric tons of gas during January through July, against 54.68mn mt in the same period of last year, customs department data published August 7 showed. In contrast, Chinese gas imports surged 10.8% yr/yr in the first seven months of 2019.

In July, China imported 7.35mn mt of gas, down 6.9% yr/yr, the data showed.
