China's gas imports down 10% in January-August

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG during the first eight months of the year were 71.04mn metric tons, down 10.2% year/year, the country’s customs department said on September 7.

The cost of imports during the January-August period was 42.4bn yuan ($6.11bn), up sharply from 29.36bn yuan in the same period of last year reflecting the spike in global gas prices. The natural gas imports in August came in at 8.85mn mt and cost 5.95bn yuan, the customs department said.
