China's 2018 LNG Imports Pip 2017's Record

China’s LNG imports in the first 10 months of 2018 have surpassed the record volumes the country imported during full-year 2017.

According to the data published by the customs department November 23, during the January-October period China imported 41.58 million metric tons of LNG, up 43% year-on-year, and higher than the 38.13mn mt imported during the whole of last year.

In October, China imported 4.6mn mt of LNG, up nearly 28% year-on-year, the data showed. Imports were up month-on-month also: China imported 4.37mn mt of LNG in September.

Last year, China edged ahead of South Korea to become the world's second-largest LNG importing nation, after Japan.
