China Huadian Seeks to Invest in LNG Projects in Canada

China Huadian Corporation (CHC) is looking for avenues to invest in Canadian LNG projects, Want China Times reports.

The report says that the Chinese company has approached Petronas to buy a stake in the Pacific Northwest LNG project, which is run by the Malaysian state owned energy firm.

Apart from overseas projects, CHC is also looking to construct LNG-receiving terminals in China, adds Want China Times.

The company signed an agreement with the Chengmai county government in Hainan in January for the construction of a receiving terminal that is capable of handling 12 million tons of LNG per year and other infrastructure that will help mine the natural resources, the news report says.

In November, CHC and the Jiangmen city government agreed to build a receiving terminal that could accommodate 12 million tons of LNG a year.

CHC has won exploitation rights for five shale gas regions in China, with total investment plans of about 2.7 trillion yuan (US$445 million).
