China is currently importing 96 million cubic meters of gas per day via pipeline from Turkmenistan, state-owned China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) said Tuesday on its website.

Turkmenistan has in total supplied 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas; almost 30 bcm has come from CNPC’s Amu Darya natural gas project.

Located on the right bank of Amu Darya in Turkmenistan, and consisting of Block A and Block B, the Amu Darya Natural Gas Project is CNPC’s largest gas cooperation project overseas. The project started operation on December 14, 2009. According to the company's website, it is progressing development of the second phase of the project.

The Central Asian nation began gas sales to China in 2009 under a 30-year, 30 Bcm/year deal agreed between CNPC and Turkmengaz.
