China discovered 26.67 billion cubic meters (bcm) of technologically recoverable shale gas reserves in 2014, country’s Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) said in a statement Thursday, Xinhua Finance reported.

The MLR also said that the country added 106.75 bcm of proven geological shale gas reserves in last year.

China newly proved 943.77 bcm of conventional natural gas geological reserves, up 53 percent year on year, Xinhua Finance reported citing the ministry data.

China also added 60.193 bcm of newly proven geological CBM reserves in 2014, up 155.3 percent year on year.

Last year, Sinopec’s Fuling field was verified by Chinese government as country’s largest shale gas play. The MLR verified proven reserves of nearly 107 billion cubic metres (bcm) in the Fuling shale gas field.
