Chevron to Supply West Oz Aluminium Producer

Chevron has signed an agreement to supply an extra 37 PJ (960mn m3) of gas from its Wheatstone, Gorgon and North West Shelf gas facilities in West Australia to aluminium producer Alcoa, the US major's Australian unit said on September 28.

The supplies will begin in January 2024 and continue over multiple years, Chevron said. The company is already set to supply 64 PJ of gas to Alcoa under a contract signed in December 2018.

At full capacity, the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities will be able to produce 500 TJ/day of gas for the Western Australian market, enough to provide electricity for 4.3mn households, Chevron said.

Alcoa has also signed a contract for 155 PJ of gas from Perth-based Warrego Energy's West Erregulla field, with those supplies also set to start in 2024.
