Chevron "Very Optimistic" on Polish Shale Gas Search

The Polish unit of Chevron Corp. has commenced its search for shale gas in that country.

 

The company initiate its first drilling in Horodysko hamlet, near Lesniowice, on the Grabowiec concessions in Lubelskie.
 
"We`re very optimistic about perspectives in Poland" - writes Country Manager John Claussen in a letter to the Polish Press Agency. Clausen underlines, that shale gas reserves may become a vital source of can low-emission energy for the country and region, for tens of years to come, strenghtening energy security, employment and growth.

 

Clausen adds, that after meetings with local inhabitants, the company secured acceptance for its project.
 
The local Kurier Lubelski daily writes, that vertical drilling will take abuot 40 days of round the clock work. The company doesn`t reveal a location of its second exploratory well. According to Radio Lublin, Chevron plans to drill five exploratory wells in 2012.
 
Grabowiec is one of four concessions in Poland obtained by the Chevron`s subsidiary in 2009 and 2010. The rest;  Frampol, Krasnik and Zwierzyniec - are also situated in Lubelskie, in the eastern part of the country.
 
Lesniowice is the second spot on the map of exploratory drilling activities in Lubelskie. The first one was started 50 kms to the North on 24 of October by Orlen Upstream, branch of the Polish company PKN Orlen.

 

Drilling is being undertaken by the NAFTA Pila unit of PGNiG.
