Chevron Names Caterpillar Boss to Board

Chevron said February 1 that Jim Umpleby has been elected to its board of directors, with effect March 1, 2018, as a non-executive, to serve on its nominating and governance, plus compensation committees.

The CEO of leading heavy equipment manufacturer Caterpillar, Umpleby joined that company in 1980 at its Solar Turbines subsidiary, becoming group president of its energy & transportation segment in 2013, and assuming the CEO role January 1, 2017.

Chevron CEO Michael K. Wirth said that Umpleby brings "a strong background in varied dimensions that are relevant to Chevron’s business, including international policy, heavy equipment engineering, environmental policy, and global workforce development.”  (Photo is of Gorgon LNG plant in Australia, courtesy of Chevron)
