Celtique Energie to Appeal WSCC’s Planning Refusal

Celtique Energie Weald unveiled it will appeal the decision by West Sussex County Council (WSCC) to reject its planning permission application for a temporary exploration well near the villages of Kirdford and Wisborough Green.

‘Having given due consideration to the planning and legal merits of WSCC’s decision, it is Celtique’s view that the reasons for rejecting the application are fundamentally unsound,’ the company wrote on Wednesday

Celtique’s CEO Geoff Davies said that the the decision taken by the WSCC is not coherent with the policies outlined and presented by the central Government.

“From our detailed studies we believe that this is an optimal location to undertake exploratory drilling to quantify the amount of untapped oil or gas resources present in this part of the Weald Basin, which we think has the potential to be nationally significant,” Davies commented.

The local communities reacted asking authorities to declare West Sussex a Frack-free Zone. The WSCC will debate the issue on Friday.

Local authorities turned down the application of Celtique in September.
