Canadian cleantech firm earns funding grant

Vancouver-based Kinitics Automation has entered into a contribution agreement with NGIF Industry Grants after successfully completing NGIF’s Round 5 funding competition, NGIF Capital said June 2.

NGIF, with a grant contribution of C$209,081 (US$173,336), joins Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) as a funding partner supporting the demonstration of the Kinitics valve actuator for zero-bleed valves at natural gas production facilities. ERA committed to a C$552,000 contribution to the demonstration project in July 2020.

The all-electric valve actuator is being developed to replace methane-venting pneumatic devices, which are widely deployed through natural gas operations in western Canada and collectively are a major source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The demonstration project is expected to reduce GHG emissions by about 1,498 mt of CO2/year. At commercial scale, deployment of the actuator has the potential to eliminate 9.7mn mt/yr of GHG emissions in Alberta alone.

NGIF investors supporting the demonstration project include Chevron Canada, Canadian Natural Resources Limited, Petronas Energy Canada, Perpetual Energy and Tourmaline Oil.
