Canada’s Pieridae, Bechtel in EPCC Talks

Canada’s Pieridae Energy said September 29 it has entered into a services agreement with global engineering firm Bechtel with the aim of settling on a lump sum turnkey (LSTK) contract for the two-train Goldboro LNG project by Q2 2021.

Under the terms of the agreement, Pieridae and Bechtel will undertake a detailed review of the scope and design of the 10mn mt/yr facility and develop a comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) execution plan by March 31, 2021.

Bechtel would them deliver a final lump sum turnkey EPCC contract price proposal by May 31, 2021. Bechtel also commits to meaningful engagement with the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq First Nations, including their participation in the construction of a large-scale work camp at the terminal site, on Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton coast.

Pieridae was forced to seek a new EPCC contractor earlier this year when KBR walked away from committing to LSTK contracts in the global LNG sector.

“This is a very positive step forward for our Goldboro LNG project,” Pieridae CEO Alfred Sorensen said. “Bechtel has significant experience building and delivering global LNG projects, helping their customers deliver about 30% of the world’s LNG capacity over the past two decades. They have a proven track record of delivering projects throughout the world on time and on budget.”
