Canada Energy Regulator Names Acting CEO

The Canada Energy Regulator (CER), which last year replaced the National Energy Board (NEB) as Canadas main energy regulatory body, said March 4 Sandy Lapointe has been designated by the federal natural resources minister acting CEO of the quasi-judicial body effective from March 3, replacing Peter Watson.

No reason for Watson’s departure was given.

Lapointe joined the then-NEB in 1992 as an environmental specialist, and in July 2002 was appointed vice president, applications. She was then named vice president, operations in August 2007 before being named executive vice president, regulatory in May 2011.

Prior to joining the NEB, Lapointe worked for an environmental consulting firm in Edmonton after receiving her bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Alberta.
