Bulgaria Moves Closer to Interconnection with Turkey

Bulgaria is pushing forward with its plans to build a gas interconnection with Turkey. A Bulgarian delegation meeting Turkish experts on Friday to discuss technical details of the project meant to decrease Bulgaria's reliance on Russian gas.

“Today's meeting is an important step of the government's efforts to diversify gas supplies to the country,” Deputy Minister of Economy and Energy Anton Pavlov commented.

The parts discussed the design and investment activities in the pipeline, technical parameter and funding opportunities.

"The business model of the project for construction of an interconnector between the two countries should be seen as bidirectional interconnector, which allows the realisation of gas flows from Bulgaria to Turkey and from Turkey to Bulgaria and the region", said Paul.

Bulgarian authorities, which are also working on a gas interconnection with Romania and Serbia, said that the next meeting will take place in late September.
