The EU Energy Union has announced its plans to seek larger roles in member states energy negotiations with third countries such as Russia.

The EU's executive body is aiming to 'speak with one voice' in energy dealings with non-member states during the changing geopolitical environment in Europe which includes the conflict in east Ukraine. The European Union energy chief Maros Sefcovic reminded everyone, at a press conference on Wednesday, that the abandoned South Stream project is an example of what happens when EU members sign deals with third countries without the European Commission signing off on the deal.
