Breagh Gas Field Production Delayed Again

The Breagh gas field, one of the largest discoveries under development in the North Sea, will be further delayed until mid-October.

In July, Sterling Resources postponed first production from the field in the Southern North Sea due to some remedial works.

“Previous mechanical problems with the gas-to-gas exchangers, which delayed start-up over the summer, have now been fully resolved. We continue to work with operator RWE Dea UK to achieve a safe and sustainable start-up of the Breagh field,” said John Rapach Sterling’s Chief Operating Officer.

During the plant start-up process RWE Dea UK and Sterling Resources found that remedial work on three small heat exchangers were required.

“The start-up of the Breagh gas field continues to be a challenging and frustrating process for Sterling,” said Rapach in a note released on Monday

The Breagh gas field is located in Block 42/13 of the northern reaches of the UK Southern North Sea. It lies 50 km to the north east of the UK coast and 200 km to the west of the median line between the UK and Dutch sectors.
